Fighting Fake News: Getting the Facts in an Age of Misinformation
Tuesday, Feb. 20 | 8:00am - 9:30am
Confluence Technology Center
During this one-hour presentation, Dominick will discuss how the public can use technology, coupled with reason, to evaluate the ever-changing news landscape. Attendees will talk about the importance of a balanced media diet, learn how to avoid building a “digital echo chamber,” and consider how traditional values like critical reading and considering the source are still crucial. Dominick will also spend a substantial portion of the class talking about how internet cookies and search engine algorithms work and affect online media consumers.
Dominick is co-owner and founder of Digital Media Northwest, a full-service digital marketing firm that works with clients such as the Wenatchee World, the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce, Eastmont School District, Apple Valley Honda and many others across the Pacific Northwest. He is a graduate of the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University and while there he served as the editor-in-chief of The Daily Evergreen, WSU’s daily newspaper. In his spare time, he is usually cooking for his wife and three kids, reading, or writing.
